What do you call people fleeing into Lebanon to escape the civil war in Syria? Or people fleeing into Chad to escape Sudans genocidal war against the people of Darfur? Or Somalis taking refuge in Nigeria to escape the insanity that is Somalia? Refugees! Right? And those countries (with the help of the UN, the Red Cross, or the Red Crescent) set up camps to accomadate them! Right? But what do we call people trying to find refuge in the United States to escape corruption, street gangs, and rampant drug violence in Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua? Illigegals? Aliens? Criminals? Sorry, they are, first and foremost, human beings and most of them are children! And things must be extremely bad in their home countries if these people are desperate enough to leave their families, take a few possessions and their children (or, in some cases, desperate enough to send their children on unaccompanied) to travel north, crossing rivers on homemade rafts and riding on the tops of trains, risking kidnapping, rape, and murder at the hands of Mexican drug cartels, all in the hope of finding safety and refuge in the US! And what do they git when they git here? Arrested! Incarcerated in sub-standard facilities! And when the government tries to bus them to ameliorate the problem, what do they find? A buncha screamin, hollerin, rabid, flagwavin patriots scarin the shit out of a buncha women and kids who were already terrified to start with! It may make some people proud but it doesnt do a damn thing for me! Weve always had our problems but we useta be a better country than this! What the hell happened?
