What do you do when your career is your calling and they began to - TopicsExpress

What do you do when your career is your calling and they began to conflict? As many of you all know I am a professional speaker, meaning I don’t work a regular 9-5 nor do I work at one place or in one city. My career requires me to travel, sleep in hotels, stand in front of crowds, speak my mind, and from my heart. It’s the funniest and most free feeling gig in the world and seeing a nice check for doing so is great! But here is something that most people don’t know about me, for the first two years of my speaking career aka “work” I was not offered a penny for my services, God to me to do it and so I took off doing it. I was just given a lot of hugs, and thank you’s but no compensation. Except for this one place that bought me a pork chop dinner. Even til this day, 60 percent of the work that I do is for free, because I don’t have the heart to turn down poor and struggling schools with no budgets who are just looking for extra help for their children. Most of my contemporaries won’t show up even if a school offers to pay them, but it falls below their speaker’s fee. But if I have time I will always show up, because I believe that, my career is a calling and our kids need me and God has always and will continue to bless me for using my gift to uplift and inspire others. If your called to do it, do it! and your life will be blessed.
