What do you remember about your High School teachers? I graduated in 1986 and still recall certain attributes of both my favourite and less favourite teachers. Mr. Long, choir instructor, had a range from baritone to 2nd soprano and could lay on his back, have a 180lb football player stand on his abs and push the guy up with just his ab muscles. Mr. Fick, computer teacher, had a crossed eye, that may have been glass, but his aim was good. I once fell asleep in class and he threw an eraser at me, which slammed with a loud thwack into the blackboard not two inches from my head. ... at least I hope he wasnt aiming for my head. Mr. Johnson, health teacher, had been a Marine in Vietnam and he usually looked like it. He seemed like a nice guy, but when he was serious you could definitely see the Marine come out. Mr. Hughes, history teacher, had his wedding pic on the desk, he had been a serious hippie. He also passed around the daily Far Side cartoon clipping form the newspaper each day to start class. Mrs Saunders, French Teacher, was French Canadian and English was her second language. I once said something with the accent on the wrong word and she instantly blushed and said What? turns out it sounded like I said I Love You to her, luckily the rest of the class didnt hear it that way. Ms. Bostic, cooking & home ec teacher, worked at a liqour store at night. Fake IDs did not get past her. Mrs Lawson, English and Theater teacher, was the first person to ask me to read a book aloud to an audience, I was hooked. Once before a play, Shakespeares Taming of the Shrew in which I played the part of Jaques the philosopher, Just as I was about to walk out on stage she said You have nice legs, they look good in tights ... I am pretty sure I blushed through the makeup. How about you? What do you remember about your High School teachers?
