What do you think of this idea to deal with the parking meter situation? I am part of a lawsuit (lwvchicago.org/files/2013-10-21_app_br.pdf) trying to solve the parking meter problem but in the case that it fails, we definitely need other ideas. If someone wanted to get a simple $4 torta and needed to park on Fullerton or Grand, that torta would cost at least $4 plus the ludicrously high parking meter cost and might make someone buy their torta elsewhere costing that small business some customers. What If the city lowered the fine for not paying the parking meters from $60 to $5? And people decided that paying the $5 fine was better than paying the actual meters, which would cost the meter company to lose money. At some point, wouldnt the parking meter company decide that it would be better for them to break the contract and settle something out with the city or at least lower the rates back to the affordable meter rates? Discuss...
