What does the oilfield do? Provide jobs. Why do most people enter the oilfield? Because of the income they can earn. What happens when you have money problems to start with and earn more money? You end up with bigger money problems! I have seen this so many times in this field. A family gets a new job in hopes of getting ahead but they actually end up further behind. Why is this? It happens because there is no financial knowledge or responsibility. This becomes extremely taxing on a marriage especially if your spouse works out of state like most of us do. I truly believe one of the corner stones of a successful marriage is agreeing on money. Sadly, this is where most fail. Dont let this be your marriage! My husband and I started this before we even entered the oilfield and it was something that pushed us to make that job change. That is the beauty of this industry. It provides an above average income! You just need to learn to manage it correctly. As Dave says, Change your family tree! Bryce and I paid off $100,000 in debt in two years following this! And guess what?! We dont fight about money ever! The most we argue about is him eating onions! Most arguments come back to money in some way. Take the most important step you can for your marriage and your family. After this you can pay off debt, save, invest and give like no one else!
