What got me here Dept. Chapter 1. Growing up. Sub Ch. 1 - a. Food; I was born on a variety store type farm. My Paternal family thought they should raise what ever type of animal, bird, fruit, vegetable, insect and natural resource that insured SELF SUFFICIENCY. Sub Ch. 1 - b. Food preparation; My Family killed, dressed and preserved in several appropriate manners every species of animal, fruit and vegetable grown on the farm. b. - ext. Storage; A large freezer served as poultry and beef reserves as well as some fruit. The Smoke House was filled with Hams, Bacon slabs and Sausage. Sorghum Syrup in 1/2 gal. Tin Cans was stored in the loft of the barn. The Storm Cellar walls were lined with shelving which was filled with home grown & canned fruit and pressure cooked chicken. b. - Note; Grocery stores provided salt, sugar, spices, crackers, coffee, tea and home canning supplies. Sub Ch. 2 - a. Clothing; 200 Baby chicks were bought early in April each year. The fortified food for them came in FloweryColored bags that were turned into shirts. Levis pants wore well enough to be hand me downs. Going bare foot most of the time preserved shoes & socks. Sunday clothes were EXACTLY THAT. Mother made lye soap at Hog Killing Time which cleaned laundry, floors, dishes and me. ALL THIS to say, If a person grows up actively involved with as much self survival as possible, that individual not only doesnt understand liberalism, He / She / They / I dont even want to think about it let alone participate in it. We didnt even have a key to our front door and wouldnt have locked it if we did. My Mother would have been embarrassed if we were not at home, Neighbor Hazel McCarty needed a cup of sugar and our front door was locked to her. This type of sharing is NOT Liberalism, It is Love.
