What happened in Paris is tragic and awful. But what is STILL - TopicsExpress

What happened in Paris is tragic and awful. But what is STILL happening in Nigeria is so bad just thinking about it makes me feel nauseous. The world is responding to death in Paris. What about the THOUSANDS of deaths at the hands of extremist Boko Haram? Do those deaths not deserve the same level of outrage and organized response? What would the response be if a little 10 year old French girl was outfitted with a bomb and walked into a market space and the little French girl and 20 others were blown to pieces? I think the response would be similar if not bigger than what we are seeing now with the #jesuischarlie hashtag. What makes the loss of French lives so different from Nigerian lives? I think we know the answer. I know this post is depressing and isnt full of hope. I know some will hit the unlike button on my fan page (some always do when I post about things people would much prefer to ignore - probably because its easier and less painful to pretend literally thousands of women, children and men arent being murdered while we all go about living our privileged lives) and I know this post wont get nearly the amount of likes that say, my joyous pictures of me hiking or with my family or selfies with my elected colleagues get, but what was that that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said about silence? In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends and Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter. Well friends, the silence on the militant Islamist terror happening in Nigeria is deafening. But it doesnt have to be that way. We each have a voice. We can use it the same way we are using it to express support and outage over what happened in Paris. The #WhiteHouse is convening a terror summit in response to the Paris attacks. Demand that they also vow to #StopBokoHaram and while theyre there, perhaps someone can inquire if we brought back our girls yet. This doesnt have to be a depressing post. It can be about the day we start doing something about the evil that some choose to ignore, and about the day we decided to do something about it. #StopBokoHaram mobile.nytimes/2015/01/11/world/africa/suicide-bomber-hits-maiduguri-nigeria-market.html?_r=0&referrer=
