What happened today was tragic, and we all have feelings of sorrow and anger over the death of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo. But we must remember--this was the act of a deeply disturbed individual. As was the homicide and attack in Quebec. These two individuals were not terrorists--not in the same way ISIS are, and they are guilty of murderous acts, not terrorist acts. And we must not be quick to judge the many fine people of Islamic background who live here and share many of our values and also hold our country dear. And we must not forget to view with suspicion and scepticism any attempts by the Conservative government to cash in on an elevated sense of tension and fear. Dont let these be the acts that make you think you have to hand over your rights to Harper and his henchmen for another 4 years.
