What have our Angels been up to this quarter? Paid for medical equipment not covered by insurance so that a PALS could stay in her home. Helped a newly trached PALS and her partner navigate life on a ventilator, which included transitioning to rehab and deciding on a facility that could support her on a vent. Supplied a CALS with a lap top so he could still work and be with his partner with ALS during a multi-month hospitalization. Provided maid service for a family in Rockland so the family could spend time with the PALS—and not just with Mr. Clean! Whipped up delicious meals for a PALS whose home attendant’s talents in the kitchen don’t quite match the superb care she gives. Paid for new tires for a family’s van—not covered by Medicare but very necessary equipment! Provided a hospital bed for a PALS in Connecticut. Supported and guided several PALS in making complex and difficult decisions such as getting a feeding tube and accessing hospice benefits. Connected a family with a barrier-free design occupational therapist at the Rusk Institute for a home evaluation; the result: Smarter choices about home modifications. Provided funds so a Westchester PALS could afford the co-pays for necessary services, including physical therapy and specialist appointments. Arranged an at-home dental visit for a Westchester PALS courtesy of MAC Angels, along with a hair cut, hair color and therapeutic massage as well!
