What if the Menindee Lakes and Darling River got national and - TopicsExpress

What if the Menindee Lakes and Darling River got national and world heritage listing? It certainly ticks a lot of the boxes. The Willandra lakes have a listing. They are a relict lake system. The Darling and lakes are a lving example of an ephemeral system that it unique in the world. It has the most variable flows and a lot of history, and being on the most inhabited arid and oldest continent I think it is worth listing. The river was what enabled the exploration of the outback and led to the discovery of ore in Broken Hill. The wealth from mining that ore had a lot to do with the transformation of Australia into a county the world takes notice of, despite our tiny population. The port at Wentworth used to be so busy it was in consideration to be the Aussie capital. If Broken Hill achieves national heritage status along with the Darling that provides even more reasons for people to come out here. I believe it is all worth preserving.
