Friday July 18, 2014 This week we entered the cosmic window in time known as the “Three Negative Weeks” or the Ben HaMetzarim. (July 15th- August 5th). The Kabbalists explain that every year at this time there is a heightened level of energy in the cosmos. We experience this energy as pressure and uneasiness. Throughout history at this time unusual incidents have often become the seeds of war. This is because the influence coming from the cosmos makes us more volatile. Yesterday I heard about the Malaysia Airlines passenger jet that was shot down, and I thought goodness, there is so much pain for the world to bear. For those of us at the Kabbalah Centre at least we are aware of what is happening in the cosmos. And by knowing what can be expected, in essence, we are forewarned so that we can prepare ourselves to apply our free will to make decisions with our highest consciousness to do the greatest amount of good. There are so many who do not know the spiritual climate and can become engulfed in the turmoil. That is such a difficult place. Kabbalists believed that knowledge, awareness, and understanding are the tools we can use to control our reactive impulses and to expand our view of the situation and potentially find the light amidst the darkness. From the perspective of kabbalistic teachings, this world operates in polarity -- light and dark exist in equal measure. Whenever and wherever there is the possibility for darkness there is equally the greatest opportunity to reveal light. Keeping this in mind, the force of the three weeks is a powerful spiritual engine to accomplish all those positive changes we have not had the strength to make. Though the circumstances may try to keep us down we can instead remove the veils of the negativity that have kept our potential concealed for so long. May we, individually, be granted the spiritual vision to see the tests in our challenges and then have the strength to pass them. And may we, as a community of consciousness, bring a flood of positive energy to a world sorely in need of it.
