What invitation does our Lord give us when we are over-burdened - TopicsExpress

What invitation does our Lord give us when we are over-burdened with care, worry, and fear? Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7) The original Greek word translated casting really means throwing your full weight upon something. So Peters passage might be translated, Throw the entire weight of all of your worries and anxieties upon Jesus. He is fully able to handle them. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28) I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed. (Psalm 34:4-5) But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” (Matthew 14:27-29) The real issue of fear is focus. Fear torments us when we consider all of the bad things that can happen. In any given situation, if we consider all of the negative possibilities that might crush us, we will be left in despair. Jesus speaks to each of our hearts just as He encouraged Peter: Be of good cheer. Do not be afraid. I have everything under control. As long as Peter kept his eyes upon Jesus, he remained calm. When he turned his attention to his own strength to cope with the elements, he began to sink beneath the waves, and Jesus had to miraculously rescue him. Keeping our eyes on Jesus, we are secure. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord (Psalm 27:14)
