... What is ACTUAL has paticular interest for us through its POTENTIALITIES, and what is POTENTIAL, mainly through its ACTUALIZATION. We are concerned with OURSELVES, but for the most only through our relationships to OTHERS, and we are interested in OTHERS because of their significance for OURSELVES. We strive after CONCRETE results, but anticipate them by ABSTRACT ideas, and we seek ABSTRACT understanding of the CONCRETE reality. We desire variety and diverting MANIFOLDNESS in ONENESS, and meaningful and peaceful ONENESS in the somewhat irritating and troublesome variety of the MANIFOLDNESS. We demand OBJECTIVITY of the SUBJECT, and we reject OBJECTS without SUBJECTIVE appeal. In ACTIVITY it is rest and PASSIVITY we look forward to, and in PASSIVITY we plan or dream of ACTIVITY. We especially enjoy ACTIVITY having a PASSIVE touch, as in play, and indulge in PASSIVITY having an ACTIVE background, as in day-dreaming and never cessant automatic thinking - if we do not endeavour to STOP the latter and to be able to persist in a state of active inactivity, one of the highest achievements of spiritual exercises.
