What is Islam and Muslims believe? Answer : Islam is a religious system founded in the early 7th century by a man named Muhammad. Muslims followthe teachings of the Quran and try to followthe Five Pillars . The History ofIslam In the seventh century , Muhammad claimed to have received a visit from the angel Gabriel . During these visits Angel, which continued for about 23 years until Muhammads death , the angel apparently revealedto Muhammad the words ofAllah ( the Arabic word usedby Muslims to God ) . These dictated revelations form what we know today ofthe Koran or Quran , the holy book ofIslam . Islam means submission , deriving from a root word meaning peace. The word Muslim means one who submits to Allah. The Doctrine ofIslam Muslims summarize their doctrine in six articles offaith : 1. Beliefin one God: Muslims believethat Allahis the one, eternal, creator and ruler ; 2 . Beliefin angels ; 3 . The beliefin the prophets, the prophets arethe biblical prophets butend with Muhammad as the last prophet ofAllah; 4 . The beliefin the revelations ofGod : Muslims accept certain portions ofthe Bible , as the Torah and the Gospels. They believe that the Quran is the perfectpre-existing word ofGod . 5 . Beliefin the last judgment dayand hereafter : everyone will beresurrected for judgment in heaven or hell. 6 . Beliefin predestination : Muslims believe Allahhas decreed everything that will happen . Muslims attest to Gods sovereignty with their frequent phrase, inshallah , meaning God willing . The Five Pillars ofIslam These fiveprinciples form the framework of obedience for Muslims : 1. The testimony offaith ( shahada ) : la ilaha illa allah Muhammad Rasul Allah. . This means : There is no god butAllah, Muhammad is the messenger ofAllah. . A person can convert to Islam justby stating this creed. The shahada shows that a Muslim believes in Allahalone as deity , which is revealedby Muhammad. 2 . The prayers ( salat ) : Five prayers need to bedone every day. 3 . Paying rituals donations ( zakat ) : This almsgiving is a certain percentage given once a year. 4 . Fasting ( sawm ) : Muslims fastduring Ramadan, the ninth month ofthe Islamic calendar . They should not eat or drink from dawn until sunset . 5 . Pilgrimage ( hajj) : Ifphysically and financially possible, a Muslim must make a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia , at least once . The Hajjis performedin the twelfth month ofthe Islamic calendar . The entry ofa Muslim in paradise depends on obedience to these Five Pillars . YetGod can reject them . Muhammad evensure whether Allahwouldadmit him to paradise ( Surah 46:9 ; Hadith 5.266 ) . An Assessment ofIslam In relation to Christianity , Islam has some similarities butalso significant differences. Like Christianity , Islam is monotheistic . However , Muslims reject the concept ofthe Trinity - namely , that God has revealed Himself as one in three persons : Father , Son and Holy Spirit . Islam claims that Jesuswas justa prophet - not the son ofGod . Muslims believethat Jesus, though born ofa virgin , was created like Adam . Many Muslims do not believe Jesusdied on the cross . They do not understand why Allahwouldallow His prophet Isa ( the Islamic word for Jesus) suffera torturous death. However, the Bible shows how the death ofthe perfectSon of God was essential to payfor the sins of believers ( Isaiah 53:5-6 , John 3:16 , 14:6 , 1 Peter 2:24 ) . Islam believes that the Koran is the final authority and the last revelation ofAllah. The Bible , however , endedin the first century with the book ofRevelation. The Lord warned us against adding or subtracting to the Word ofGod (Deuteronomy 4:2 , Proverbs 30:6 , Galatians 1:6-12 , Revelation22:18 ) . The Koran , which claims to bean addition to Gods Word , directly disobeys Gods command . Finally, Islam teaches that one can gain heaven through good works and obedience to the Five Pillars . The Bible , however , reveals that man can not compare with a holy God ( Romans 3:23 , 6:23) . Onlybecause ofthe mercy and loveofGod sinners can besaved through faith in Christ ( Acts20:21 , Ephesians 2:8-9 ) . Because ofthese differencesand essential contradictions , Islam and Christianity can not both betrue. The Bible and the Quran can not both bethe Word ofGod . The truth has eternal consequences . Beloved, believenot every spirit , buttry the spirits whether they areofGod : because many falseprophets aregone out into the world . Hereby know yethe Spirit ofGod : Every spirit that confesses that JesusChrist has come in the fleshis ofGod: And every spirit that does not confess that JesusChrist is come in the fleshis not ofGod: and this is that spirit ofantichrist, whereof youhave heard was coming , and now it is alreadyin the world . Littlechildren , arefrom God and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in youthan he that is in the world ( 1 John 4:1-4 ; see also John 3:35-36 ) . 4 hours ago Like · 2 Comments · Share Hide story 9 people like this.
