What is LEADERSHIP? Here is my answer.... A leader takes the moments we think are ordinary into the extraordinary. To someone the ordinary moment is the extraordinary momentum they need, and leader provides. A leader sets out to make those moments each day for someone. This thought is really to be a simple way of saying: engage your world. Engage the people around you. If you find this simple, good. Because it was simple, it will be memorable. Think with me, remember the last time you were on a plane, a bus or in a elevator. Picture it. Your there now in your mind. What do you and the people you were around speak of? You tried to find placed to rest your eyes that screamed neutral. This dull sense of isolation is carried off the bus, the plane and out of the elevator and into life. Then most of the time we dont engage the world, fully, we keep to ourselves, partly. We find a paper thin unspoken veil that is around us each day with the people we are in the vicinity of. The people we are at a arms length away each day is staggering in number. But each one, unless known by us, is miles away from us. There is a veil, a space, a individualistic way of living we slip into further and further from our youth. My 2 year old son has no veil. After all, whats keeping me from talking to the man next to me on this plane, or bringing a community of people together right here in conversation in row 6A 6B and 6C? The veil. The ordinary The awkward. A leader crosses the miles of relational oceans with people that are walking on the same islands as them. A leader brings something ordinary that maybe be extraordinary to someone into their understanding. A leader embraces the awkward until it become anointed, appointed and all together something more. A leader knows there is not a world, only billions and billions of individuals of that world. Thats leadership. Share this with the people you lead.
