What is Love? The word love has been terribly misconstrued in our society. Many feel that love is only a deep romantic feeling that comes from some physical or mystical attraction. This type of love is far from the biblical meaning of love. Agape love is the highest form of love known to mankind. This kind of love is sacrificial and puts the interests of others before self (Phil. 2:3-9, 1 Cor. 13:1ff). Agape love can only be demonstrated by its supreme actions toward ot...hers. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8). It was agape love that provided man with the greatest gift ever offered. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). If Christians had more of this kind of love for one another there would be a lot less griping, bickering, complaining and backbiting among us (I Cor. 13:4-7). Also, if we had a better understanding of this love in our lives it would make us better givers of our time, talents, attention and money. May God always help us to possess this divine love.
