What is Purity?”, “How does it lead to stillness?” and - TopicsExpress

What is Purity?”, “How does it lead to stillness?” and “How do I know whether I am pure or not?” As I explained just now, we have accumulated many layers of thoughts, emotions and experiences. When a soul operates in this world, it has to do it through the web of all these layers. Because of these layers, we are unable to see the true nature of the soul. If an individual can eliminate these accumulated layers, the original personality of the soul will shine through, and we can say that the individual is pure. And how to know whether we are pure? The amount of love that we can manifest is directly proportional to the level of our purity. In other words, the more pure we are, the less baggage we carry and the more love we can manifest. And when we don’t have any baggage, we can naturally experience stillness very easily. The converse is also true, which is, if we are unable to experience stillness, it indicates that we are unable to give up our ‘precious’ baggage. So, Sadhana is not acquiring something new that we don’t already have. It is just giving up all the unwanted baggage and returning to our original, pure state. We begin this process of purification by meditating and positivising. While regular and long Meditations remove the hardened layers of negative energies, positivisation prevents further accumulation of negativity. Ultimately, we remove even the positive so that our true nature shines through. In fact, this is a good way to find out whether we have made any Spiritual progress or not. If we have meditated for a long time, then we can check how much of love we are able to manifest. Has the quantity and quality of love that we are able to bring out increased? Or has it remained the same? Or has it diminished? This is a better indicator of our Spiritual progress than the number of years or hours of meditations. ~ Excerpt from speech on the topic of Love by Raghvendra Somayaji
