What is Rock That Ausome’s Story? Wendy and Kim couldn’t - TopicsExpress

What is Rock That Ausome’s Story? Wendy and Kim couldn’t help but notice a deficit in our community. They are both professionals and parents who are quite familiar with disabilities. They knew some things needed to change. They knew that too many folks did not know anything about the resources available to them. With the number of disabilities on the rise some one should get out there and help but, whom? They bounced the idea off of a few like-minded folks and Rock That Ausome was born. We’re a fun mix of volunteers; parents & professionals who have all been inspired, motivated and loved by some with a disability. We also wanted to provide affordable sensory calming tools & assistive communication technologies to those who need them. We began crafting and fundraising. This has been an amazing experience for us all. We have been able to help and reach out to so many individuals and families. We love what we do! We wanted to be a positive resource/entity in our community, so we… A: EDUCATE the community on the resources and services available to all with disabilities AND their families. 1. Promoting Developmental Disability Agency’s + Disability Awareness Night. 2. Testing/Diagnosis Avenues 3. IEP/504/ BIP’s at school 4. Different therapies that are available 5. Inclusion and Acceptance. Providing assistance with transitioning for students, teachers and administrators. B: EMPOWER people by focusing on their strengths and individualism. 1. Farming. Preparing the grounds, raising/growing food. Fresh air! 😉 2. Sewing our wares. Affordable sensory calming tools made by our clients 3. Assistive Communication Technologies –(Kindle, iPad, etc.) Give a voice without one. This is huge for the person as well as their family, friends, therapists, & teachers. 4. Sensory Calming Tools. These empower folks to work through their sensory issues and approach tasks calmer than without. It greatly improves focus & functionality. 5. Cooking Classes. The fun inclusive kind. ☺ C: INSPIRE by getting them involved in their own community. 1. Music speaks to the soul and dancing is great for us all on so many levels 2. Our logo is from a drawing a client made. His successes motivated us to get more involved and keep them drawing, dancing and dreaming! 3. It is amazing what a little bit of encouragement can do for someone’s perspective. We always praise their strengths as it does make a difference 4. Public Events. We have folks come out to help with events. It gives them another opportunity to work on social skills while still with a support team. They find strengths they didn’t know they had. 5. Gifting to those in need. We have people help us with gifting things we are donating. It is such a rewarding feeling to give and we love being able to share that. It is a beautiful experience for everyone involved. We would love to chat & answer any questions you may have. Feel free to contact us here, email @ rockthatausome@gmail or 208-598-5387.
