What is a Red Shirt try-out? They are looking to add students to the Mock Trial team who will practice/scrimmage with the team, compete in local competitions (with UF, UCF and Stetson) but will not travel out of state or to regional competitions until the following year. Preference is given to freshman and first semester sophomores who envision staying on the team until graduation. The benefits of Flagler Mock Trial Team are many! What is in it for you? competing in regional competitions travel across the country meet amazing people improve your public speaking spend time in real courtrooms arguing before real judges run a business (student leaders have an opportunity to help run an organization which includes hosting events, managing a budget, or training the next group of students) succeed in life. However, Mock Trial is not for everybody. It is a full-scale, intercollegiate, academic competition team that competes in the name of Flagler College. There is a substantial time commitment involved. Mock Trial provides valuable experience to anyone interested in pre-law, public speaking, theatre or any major offered by Flagler College. Mock Trial teaches students to develop their public speaking skills, to argue points concisely and persuasively and to have a commanding presence in even the most adverse circumstances. It is an environment where opinions are welcome and encouraged and where varying personalities are an asset. Team members learn how to think fast on their feet, adapt to changing situations and to be able to react to even the most unanticipated events in a calm and collected manner. The communication skills that are taught can be applied to a wide variety of careers and used professionally in many capacities. Flagler College’s Mock Trial team is looking for students interested in joining the team. Meetings are every Tuesday from 5-7pm. Some weekend travel will be required.
