What is capitalism? Capitalism is the struggle to progressively - TopicsExpress

What is capitalism? Capitalism is the struggle to progressively commodify and subject all aspects of human life to a monetary value, to subject our entire existence to the market. It started of with the enclosure of land to drive those who commonly owned the land as communities off the land and into the market as labour, leaving people who led a communal existence with nothing other than their ability to work, turning them into wage labour. Once most of the land became privatised (enclosed) capitalism directed it enclosures towards the arts, culture, food, and all that we commonly produce for our very existence. That is why there is a constant attack on public goods, seeking to privatise as much of the communal public space and services as possible. To privatise something is to take it away from public control. The economy through which we collectively produce our daily needs and wants has been taken almost entirely out of the public control, away from communal ownership. To struggle against privatisation is to struggle against capitalism.
