What is cool to me is someone dropping flowers on a porch unseen... Loving someone who isnt spectacular, by the worlds standards. Dressing up for a kindergarten class... Having a fascinating conversation with someone who others seldom listen to. Being cool is being kind. Its laughing at yourself while withholding laughter that would pain another. Its not turning away when someone cries...but turning away from comparisons. Cool is knowing that the performer has a heart and has just put it out there for the whole world to see. Being cool is being original and not having to follow someone else, for lack of imagination. Its recognizing that people have fought long and hard to prevent cruelty...and making the concerted effort not to revisit that...no matter how stylish the costumes. Cool is hanging out with an elderly person, who knows way more than you do and hearing them out. Its doing your own work and minding your own business. Its ignoring noise, instead of adding to it, with complaint. Cool says, There you are! Not, Here I am. Being cool is finding the whole world on a drop of dew, on a leaf ...and showing it to someone.... Its sticking your neck out and saying I love you, though it may not be requited. Its taking a cold hand in yours and warming it with your breath. Cool is, knowing you could destroy someone...and refraining. Its playing in water, when you should do paperwork. Its serving a meal to homeless man, on bone china. Cool, is singing a happy tune, when youve heard the worst news in your life. Its remembering, youll make a wave....and it should be warm and soothing. Its recognizing that you will only be the master when you learn to serve.
