What is faith? The biblical definition for faith is “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrew 11:1, NIV). When we profess our belief in Jesus and our belief that he died for our sins, we hope for eternal life in accordance to his word. At the time we make our declaration, we do not see the physical being of Jesus. We see his general revelations which prompts our belief but not the physical being of Christ. But yet, despite the fact that no no one can see a physical being when we make our declaration, we hope to be saved because of our belief in Jesus. We base our hope on God’s word that is written in passages such as Romans 10:9, which states “that if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Our confidence that we are saved is based on the fact that if God said it in His word, then it must be so since we know that God is not one to lie.
