What is grinding my gears today? A rant about popular - TopicsExpress

What is grinding my gears today? A rant about popular culture The word curvy, and the ever-present posts about real women, curvy women, only dogs go for bones, and some horribly catch song by a one hit wonder named Meghan Something-or-Other. Now, dont get me wrong; Im all for positive body image, and girls being taught that it is okay to be comfortable in your own skin. What Im not okay with, is my daughters generation being taught that it is okay to overeat, and okay to be lazy because big is beautiful, and that skinny girls should be ashamed of THEIR body image, because they are trying to hard to be the socially acceptable form of beautiful. Now, back to that catchy song.... doesnt that song just send a terrible message. Its not even about being comfortable in your own skin. The song literally implies that men love bigger girls, and that makes it okay. Wait a minute! Isn’t that social conformity? Where is the group-social conscience shift that the mass media is touting this song to possess??? Here is how the situation should be: If you are skinny and happy; as long as it isnt a detriment to your health, great for you!!! If you are skinny and unhappy, do something about it! Learn how your body works and take an active interest in your health. Make the change you want to see! If you are a bigger girl (god forbid I use the offensive fat word), and it isnt a detrimental to your health, good for you! If you are a bigger girl, and youre unhappy.... guess what: ONLY YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! On the same note; anyone who is offended by this post, replace every girl in this post with boy and see if youre still offended? I dont see many women ogling fat dudes, saying DAMN, THAT CURVY GUY IS HOT!....... Cmon, we all know you watched Magic Mike for reasons other than great dialogue..... Now we come to the tail-end of this long-winded blog-style rant... Im going to leave you with a video that says more than I can. Healthy lifestyles start at the start, so if anyone asks why our daughter doesnt eat chocolate or lollies... this is why. CHILDREN DONT NEED THEM, NOR DO THEY CRAVE THEM! If you call broccoli a treat, it will be a treat. If you call cake a treat, it will be a treat.... Youre the creator of your childs future. youtube/watch?v=GI4YvU9RYNE
