What is happening here? A close relative just called me asking if the Catholic Church does not allow a funeral mass for someone just because the priest (who will be requested to say the mass) saw the deceased enter a non-Catholic church when the latter was still alive. Is this a new guideline? If I enter a mosque, does that make me a believer in Islam? Or a synagogue, does that make me a Jew? I told my relative that the primary evidence is the deceaseds Catholic baptismal certificate, and the secondary evidence is their testimony to the effect that the deceased died a Catholic. Now, if the priest can find evidence that indeed the deceased converted to another religion, then he can have his way. I hope this incident is not the norm in our Catholic parishes.
