What is happening to America? Is education exempt from the progressives agenda for our nation state? Can a public school system be taken over to promote political agendas? Why are school board members and administrators oblivious to these political realities? Let me raise a fourth principle--the Consistency Principle--as a culprit. Within each person is a desire to appear or act consistent. It is part of everyones response pattern. Once youve made a decision, you tend to hold to that decision. I call this the saving face principle. It is bounded by pride and an inability to acknowledge that a mistake has been made. For example: A boss promotes someone, but within weeks its clear that hes made a wrong choice. Instead of moving the person to a different position, he holds to his original decision. Within him is an overwhelming desire to see himself as consistent, as well as to have others view him as consistent and competent. To change one persons view of themselves specific to something like common core, is exasperated by the group think mentality which is self-reinforcing. In understanding ourselves and others, it is important to know how we/they are being influenced and whether or not that construct or way of thinking, feeling and behaving is healthy.
