What is heritage? What is culture? Is it food, music, working practices? How is it defined? What is English heritage and if you were at the funeral of England what would you write in a condolences book? What would you be saying goodbye to? As a global society across the world what does heritage mean to people? Is it something that they know or is it what they have been taught? Is national identity a way of labelling and separating people? As people move around the world how do they feel about their heritage? Call out for filmmakers to create short films about heritage and globalisation to be shown at a three day event in November in Walsall. They may also be taken other places. Three Days in November will see Dale Grimshaw create a mural over a three day period and there is a call out for artists to respond to the work through performance, music, spoken word, poetry or any other art form. There is a room upstairs for film to be shown and a screen at the end of the bar. Please have a look at dalegrimshaw to see Dales work. My work called Multi which is a flag for a multicultural Britain willl be displayed as well as Coffin which I created after seeing the EDL and UAF clashes in Britain. It made me wonder whether people actually feel that the country has changed, almost like the death of England. People will be invited to write in a condolences book and it will be interesting to see how this is articulated, if at all. Get in touch if you would like to be part of this event.
