What is in front of me now is the birthplace of the 32nd President of the United States--Harry S. Truman. He was born in Lamar, Missouri. He went from relative obscurity to the Presidency in 1945 after the tragic death of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. So many monumental events occurred during Mr. Trumans Presidency. Among these were: 1. The end of World War II. 2. The dawn of the nuclear age. 3. The advent of the Cold War. 4. The Korean War. 5. The Marshall Plan for the reconstruction of Post War Europe. 6. The Fair Deal to stimulate the Post War economy in the Unites States. He came from truly humble beginnings. And he was quoted, I ask only to be a good and faithful servant of my Lord and my People.
