What is it about turquoise water shimmering in the sun, white sand - TopicsExpress

What is it about turquoise water shimmering in the sun, white sand below, blue skies above and coconut trees that refreshes us so much? Yes, I am talking about beaches and I love them!!! Not for the unbridled hedonism and casting off of restraint that they provoke but for the very real and true rejuvenation they are able to bring into tired bodies and souls. I think it is the absence of schedule and routine, the promise of doing absolutely nothing (which can do dangerous things to the mind, I admit), and the powerful dose of uncontrolled nature that do their work....... perhaps its just the irresistible conjunction of two of the coolest things - the colour blue and water that does it:) Does a place called Kokomo really exist? Many other places mentioned in this song do, and effortlessly evoke what its about - the Florida Keys (including Key Largo), Jamaica, Bahama, Bermuda, Montego, Martinique, Montserrat, Port au-Prince...... Many videos of this song have the Beach Boys performing live and I like the videos that have John Stamos (Uncle Jesse of Full House) playing the steel drums. There are also clips from the much-panned Tom Cruise starrer Cocktail, interspersed with the usual generous helpings of hedonistic images. Somehow that didnt go with the song for me :) I dont even know when the Beach Boys released this song - I saw some LP called Sights and Sounds of Summer or The Summer Collection or some such cliche - essentially like any stylish garment brand putting out a greatest hits for the season collection, which is in this case a compendium of signature Beach Boys tunes:) The song is signature Beach Boys sound - surf music which is essentially lilting, somewhat gentler rocknroll. The steel drums are so refreshing! The singing also lends itself well to the beach-summer motif, not to mention the perfect chord progression for the occasion. I just love the song:) Enjoy. PS - the video cuts off the song fade too abruptly. youtube/watch?v=mP07Oyr7enQ
