What is the expression? Tickled pink? I have to say that, in watching the videos that I took this week of the Third Class of my Level I “Introduction to K9 Nose Work,” well, I am tickled pink. The dogs were forward, they were focused, they were on task, they were energized, and they were clearly hunting for that which they had learned was out there in the search area to find! It is just so heart-warming to see dog after dog, performance after performance, happily and with great confidence go out, on their own, to search for something each dog has learned is meaningful to them and worthy of searching. And this, after only two weeks of training!!! Whew!!! To me, to have dogs go out and to have dogs search this strongly … albeit in a world that I have structured … well, it is a wonderful thing. And so, we – all the 70+ Instructors on the Instructors List – hope to share this with Returning Veterans who may have a dog at home and who just may want to feel the same joy as we do in watching their dogs do what comes so naturally to them.
