What is the oolong tea diet? According to the Chinese people, there is nothing easier than this diet…just drink the tea! Could losing weight be THAT easy? Chinese scientists claim that it is a compound called “polyphenol” that helps you lose weight. A 5 years study certainly shows that they are right! What is polyphenol? Polyphenol is a substance found in plants and it is good stuff! It is an anti-oxidant. It aids in weight loss and it may reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Chinese scientists claim that it is this compound that helps you lose weight. It’s true! The best news regarding Oolong tea is its weight loss benefits. It is a fact that Oolong tea gives you a 10% increase in expended energy. But what does this mean exactly? Well, it means is that Oolong tea burns over 157% more fat than regular Green tea. If you have heard of the craze over Green tea and weight loss then you know what I am referring to. Well now you know that Oolong tea has even more fat loss properties than Green tea! Isn’t that wonderful news? The Chinese have used Oolong tea for its weight loss properties for a long time. This tea is known to assist your body in weight loss by boosting your metabolism with its natural metabolic stimulants. What this means to you is that you will experience an increase in metabolism without getting high or feeling jittery. Oolong tea will also help you to continue burning fat long after you are done working out. Now I know what you may be thinking is there any truth to this claim it sounds too good to be true! Well let’s look at the research done on the “Oolong tea diet.” oolong tea diet Oolong Tea Diet: Study #1 In 1998, a Chinese study comprised of 102 females showed that continuous drinking of Oolong tea for a duration of six weeks resulted in an overall reduction of body weight. Oolong Tea Diet: Study #2 In 2001, Dr. William Rumpler – a physiologist with the US Agriculture Research Services’ Diet and Human Laboratory – investigated the Oolong tea diet’s claims of weight loss. This study measured how tea influences energy expenditure – EE – and included 12 male volunteers who were given 4 separate beverage formulas over three consecutive days: Full strength Oolong tea Caffeinated water – with caffeine equal to full strength Oolong tea Half strength Oolong tea Plain water The participants 24 hour EE was measured and resulted in: Their EE levels were about 3% higher when they drank either the full strength Oolong tea or the caffeinated water versus the non caffeinated water. The participants burned an average of 67 more calories per day when drinking the full strength Oolong tea. Fat burning was increased by a whopping 12% after consuming the full strength Oolong tea versus the caffeinated water. This study confirms that a component other than caffeine is responsible for promoting the preferential use of fat as an energy source and that the Oolong tea diet’s claims are valid. Oolong Tea Diet: Study #3 In 2003, a Japanese study went one step further comparing the benefits of Oolong tea versus green tea. Eleven healthy young female students participated in this well controlled study. The participants received three different beverage formulas: Oolong tea Green tea leaves Water The results? Oolong tea had higher EE levels from beginning to end and at intervals of 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. EE levels peaked at 90 minutes for both Oolong and green tea and remained at their respective levels until 120 minutes – or 2 hours. Conclusion: This study indicates that after drinking Oolong tea helps you use more energy than if you were to drink green tea or water. And these are just three studies, there are a lot more and all of them confirm that yes indeed Oolong tea – along with a proper diet and exercise – can help you maintain and even lose some weight. It does not mean that Oolong tea is the miracle pill however. One cannot eat “Twinkies” and ice cream, guzzle Oolong tea and wait to shed some pounds! Won’t happen! Sorry….I wish it were this easy.
