What is the sword Jesus spoke of in Matthew 10: 34? Think not - TopicsExpress

What is the sword Jesus spoke of in Matthew 10: 34? Think not that I come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace but a sword. Was it an actual sword? Or a metaphor? Cherry pick that verse & yes you may be fooled to think Christ was a war-monger baring arms! However read on with understanding & a nursery child would prove you different. First who is this sword for? Go back a verse & we see it will affect those who deny Jesus Christ....even in our very families we are warned the sword will divide.....in my family alone we have atheists & various Christian denominations.....is that not a division of versions of the true teachings of Christ among father/son, mother/daughter etc? Believe me there are a couple among mine who would go to war with you over what they believe! So now what is the sword if not a metal object for murdering the physical body? Well the Bible says our tongues can be like sharp swords (Psalm 57: 4). He hath made my mouth like a sharp sword..... (Isaiah 49: 2). We are told the LORD will plead with all flesh with His sword...note plead not kill, & do we not plead with the mouth? (Isaiah 66: 16). So we learned the sword can be our mouths, often we relate that to hurtful things we say to each other, cutting remarks & criticisms.......but what would come out of a righteous mouth like our Lords & cut like a sword? For the wicked, the proud & haters of truth each word that challenges their view is like a sword blow, Im sure at some point in our life we have all wished we could remove a verse, but we learn to accept & adapt because we know deep down its right & good for us, before moving onto NT verses of what the Lords Sword is, it is interesting to note that the Virgin Mary is told Yea, a sword shall pierce thru thy own soul also, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. (Luke 2: 35)......NOT a literal sword either! So the Lords sword what is it? Take the helmet of salvation, & the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6: 17). We see then that the righteous tongue has the word of God as its sword....the Lords sword is His teachings! So why is the word of God likened to a sword? For the sword of God is quick, & powerful, & sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul & spirit, & of the joints & marrow, & is a discerner of the thoughts & intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4: 12). Could a cold chunk of sharp metal also divide soul & spirit, & discern the thoughts & intents of a heart? It would be the first inanimate object that could! No....only God the Father & God the Son...His Word made flesh could do that. So who is the prophet with this sword? He had is His right hand seven stars (the seven churches): & out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword (Gospel truth): & His countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength (His face did shine as the sun Matthew 17: 2). & when I saw Him I fell at His feet as dead (possibly stunned or surrendered), & He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first & the last (Alpha & omega- I am Alpha & Omega, the beginning & the ending, saith the Lord, which is & which was, & which is to come, the Almighty Revelations 1: 8): I am He that liveth, & was dead (Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here for He is risen Matthew 28: 5-6); &, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; & have the keys.... (Revelations 1: 16-18). ....These things saith He which hath the sharp sword with two edges (I came not to send peace but a sword. Matthew 10:34); I know thy works & where thou dwellest, even where satans seat is......(God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ... Romans 2: 15). The remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of His mouth. (He was ordained of God to judge the living & the dead Acts 10: 42). Jesus Christ the Son of God is the Prophet with the sword. (A voice from heaven, saying, This is my Beloved Son... Matthew 3:17). The sword which Jesus brought, that would divide people including family units, the wicked from the righteous & the sheep from the goats is the unchanging words of His Gospel, He didnt come to bring peace in the form of tickling ears to what they wish to hear, but peace by accepting Jesus as our Saviour & Master & obedience to His words, tho for those who prefer the sword of metal beware of the warning He leaves for you of His sword: He that killeth with the sword, must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience & the faith of the saints.(Revelations 13: 10). For the sword of God is quick, & powerful, & sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul & spirit, & of the joints & marrow, & is a discerner of the thoughts & intents of the heart. ~ Hebrews 4: 12. Heavenly Father, I believe Jesus Christ is thy Begotten Son, my Lord, Saviour & Redeemer. Thank you for thy loving mercy, that thou sent a sword of truth, love & guidance rather than the cold merciless sword of death for we all fall short & at times are blind to our own path, bless us Father to have our eyes & hearts opened to thy path, that we may reap mercy & life, instead of thy sword & justice. Father we pray for those lead onto strange paths, which twist & distort thy words for sinister ends, soften their hearts & guide them to thy truth, that they too may be partakers of thy endless mercy & glorify thy name for all eternity. In the powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen+
