What is true friendship? When we carefully contemplate the concept of friendship in the human community on earth, it will become quite clear that at the very centre of true friendship is the mutual and conscious exchange of love. Indeed it was Love, the Love of God, that brought Creation into existence in the first place; and in sustaining the work of Creation, this Love incisively touches all things, all creatures that have been permitted to take on form and come to activity therein. Therefore all human creatures that are conscious and alive in Creation are naturally conditioned to love and to be amenable to love. There are no exceptions because this inner conditioning and disposition is inextricably tied up with our humanity. It is what is human in us that knows and recognises love and will also want to give love. It is the Will of God that friendship should take on form among His creatures on earth as a feature of the love that human creatures can share among themselves as they experience the process of their development and maturing. The Will of God for His creatures is for them to strive for nobility of soul as they see their fellow human being as one of equal worth whose honour, dignity and esteem should not be undermined in anyway. This is to be a conscious effort on the part of the human being to see to it that this is assured and expressed at all times. Our [readers] can now appreciate that one ofthe things that lends value, meaning and warmth to life on earth is true friendship. Thehuman being has been conditioned by the Creative Will of God such that he will desire friendship, know friendship and give himself to friendship. Indeed that spiritual benefits that can derive from true friendship cannot be quantified. It cannot be measured. This is why care must be taken by all human creatures to nurture, preserve and protect true friendship because it is of spiritual value. A true friend gives unselfishly. He is ready to stoop in service. He bears inconvenience in order to be able give joy to his friends. He is also disposed to forgive. However, one beautiful thing about friendship is that whoever is conditioned and disposed to give expression to true friendship becomes an invaluable human asset to the human community. Because of his inner disposition for genuine friendship, he invariably becomes a friend to everyone he meets who similarly has the goal and soil of true friendship. True friendship is that inner disposition which the love for God and man prompts anddrives. The explanation given in this article is based on the author’s understanding of the Work “In The Light of Truth”, The Grail Message by Abd-ru-shin.
