What is wrong with public education in the United States? The same exact thing that is wrong with our economy, justice system, food system, health care system, and military: policy is being created and implemented for the sole purpose of growing the astronomical profits of Corporate America. Both the Democrats and the Republicans have promoted deregulation, privatization, and the revolving door between corporate board rooms and government offices. And now the Democrats are taking the lead in busting one of the largest remaining unionized jobs in the country - in which over 80% of the workforce is women - to make way for the wholesale corporate takeover of our countrys public schools. I think the best way to fix educationmight also be the best way to fix our country: growing a broad-based, grassroots, democratic labor movement.
