What is your metaphor for The Intellectual Square? To me, The - TopicsExpress

What is your metaphor for The Intellectual Square? To me, The Intellectual Square is like walking into my favorite pub. There are lots of tables and many familiar faces. When I come into the Square, there are many posts by familiar names. I cant sit with every table, nor do I want to. I dont comment on every post, nor do I want to. Some people in the pub may be familiar but I have no interest in what they have to say. Some posts in the Square are pure boredom and I have no interest in reading or commenting. There are a variety of beers to order and I choose my favorite. Sometimes there are new offers and I am willing to try them, hoping for an even more rewarding beer experience. Its the same with the Square. Sometimes there are new posts by new members that seem worthy of attention. I try them and decide if they are for me or not. Pubs in Oregon may, (not all) serve hard liquor. The pubs I visit are like this. I rarely drink hard liquor (prefer scotch that is old enough to vote when I do) but I see the pub drinkers who imbibe hard liquor as the theists in the Square. They are hard core drinkers. Some can handle it and dont over do it and some get drunk almost every time. The atheist are the beer drinkers, all the various varieties of beer. Then there are those who dont drink at all. They come into the pub as well. Some to be with friends who drink, some for the food, and some are under age. Entire families will be there and where the bar is, is cordoned off so under age cant go. BTW, we call the food pub grub. I go for the beer. This is my metaphor for The Square. What is yours?
