What kind of loving god will subject his creations to eternal - TopicsExpress

What kind of loving god will subject his creations to eternal torment for a finite crime? And what kind of egotistical god considers lack of ass-kissing a crime by which to punish his creation? By Christian/theistic/bible-thumping logic, Bill Gates is going to hell because he is an atheist, even though he is one of the most caring and generous individuals who has done quite a lot for society. Does any Christina/theist honestly believe that? If so, it is disgusting to believe such a thing. Many Christians/theists say that atheists just cannot get around this reason for evil. That is another attempt to argue that morality is objective and comes from a divine source, the source being their god in particular? Nope. The theist idea that the non-religious (or in a faith-believer’s case, the non-Christians/non-faith believer) cannot have morals, is a false dichotomy. Morals are based on human interaction and what is best for living in a society if one wants to survive peacefully. Human beings tend live in similar circumstances, with similar goals (a long, healthy and happy life), and therefore come up with similar solutions on what laws a society should be built on. A moral code does NOT need any divine guidance. If theistic misguided belief was the case, then there would have been one set or moral law, and moral codes would have remained intrinsic, and they would not have shifted as the perception of the extent of our actions evolved over time. Most atheists want to live harmoniously with other human beings in their community, and they know it is in their best interest not to harm others physically or mentally in order to assure the continuation of all communities, and more importantly the species, as we are social creatures. Most atheists know that the consequence of a deed which is harmful to a fellow human being is on their shoulders 100%. Unlike atheists, it is theists saying that a sky daddy gives them a moral code, and to say such a thing is no different than submitting to a dictatorship because they have lost the cognitive ability to think as an individual. Many Christians have actually said that if they found out that the Judeo-Christian god did not exist tomorrow, that they would steal, murder, and rape, because, why not? There is no moral code, and that means no rules. That is where their question to atheists is harbored when they ask atheists where they get their morals from, or they will flat out tell atheists that atheists have no morals. Now THAT is a scary concept. If the only thing keeping a faith believer who believes in a god from committing all of those horrid acts is because of the believed existence of a supernatural being, which is reasonably well within question, then humanity has much to fear the worst for the future of our species, and specifically atheists since most atheists are naturalists who truly care about the planet, their families, have compassion for others, and a whole host of other human qualities. It all boils down to this one question: Are things moral because theists god says so, or does theists god say things because they are moral? If the first one is true, then their god can make ANYTHING moral, including actions that we would -- in modern society -- consider immoral today (that point will be addressed a little later). If the second is true, then theists god did not create morals, he is merely a messenger boy, and the humans who wrote the bible simply had god state what was morally acceptable based on cultural and historical context during that era. Either way any Christian/faith believer is cherry-picking. A little challenge for Christians and the religious to help them separate true morality from so-called divine law: Slavery was justified in the US due to passages in the bible. To be specific, the bible not only decrees slavery morally sound, but it also gives details on exactly who can be enslaved and how long they can be enslaved for. There is also a verse that states that slave owners are allowed to beat their slaves within an inch of their lives if they choose to do so; so long as the slave doesn’t die immediately afterwards. This is part of the Christian biblical moral code. Do Christians/faith believers agree with this aspect of it? Yes or No, and why? And before a theist/Christian says, The old testament doesnt count because of Jesus, as this is the most common response, take a gander at Matthew 5:17-18, where Jesus allegedly says from his own mouth in “the holy book” that he did not come to abolish or change the law of the previous covenant, but to uphold them. Long story short: If Christians/faith believers derive their morals from a tyrannical monster that condones slavery, a woman being forced to marry her rapist, and the slaughter of other human beings because they do not follow Christian faith in particular, then Christians and bible-thumping theists (or any people of religion who follow the bible or similar tyrannical preaching), are truly to be pitied by atheists. The Judeo-Christian god is not moral in any sense of the word. So atheists choose not to blithely stumble through life with blind, unquestioning faith in something that doesnt make any sense whatsoever. Ignorance and fear make the masses far easier to control, and atheists are rational thinking individuals who have freed themselves from that.
