What might have been Remember the supposed Icelandic ambitions to merge Stoke City and Port Vale in the early Noughties or to possibly Ground share at the Britannia? Well as we all know it never materialised but did you know that was not the first time a club merger had been on the cards over 70 years earlier there was a proposed merger that very nearly came off It was the Directors of Stoke City that proposed this and for a while it was under serious consideration However Vale fans revolted and threatened to form a breakaway Port Vale gladly it never happened as a result though and on 19th May 1926 the Stoke directors backed out of the discussions, leaving the Vale directors and chairman to resign in failure I cant imagine this City without Port Vale i say this has a Stoke Fan Thoughts Stokies
