What really happened with the $112 million Canadian billionaire - TopicsExpress

What really happened with the $112 million Canadian billionaire Michael DeGroote lent brothers Francesco and Antonio Carbone for a gambling casino venture is now the central question in a legal battle being fought out in the Ontario courts. DeGroote’s shining Caribbean dream would turn into a nightmare. There would be accusations of bad faith, fraud and even conspiracy to murder. The court record includes hours of audiotapes supplied by the Carbone brothers in which you can hear both sides plotting against each other. Through his lawyer, Michael DeGroote said these secret recordings were manipulation, created by “individuals with a long history of practising deceit.” In this clip, Michael DeGroote meets with Sasha Visser and Dream Casinos consultant Peter Shoniker in the DeGroote family luxury suite at the Ritz-Carlton building in Toronto. The three men discuss ways of dealing with the Carbone brothers. Visser, unbeknownst to DeGroote, had been out of jail less than a year when he met with DeGroote and secretly recorded the conversation. Sasha Visser and Michael DeGroote reconvene the next day at the Ritz-Carlton, where DeGroote offers him a down payment of $150,000. DeGroote would later swear in court that he had never paid Visser any money. For more watch tonights fifth estate The Mob and Michael DeGroote at 9PM on CBC Television.
