What some younger folks dont realize or havent learned is that, after all the hippy excess and distortion of the original framework, the Ramones brought music, rock n roll, back to Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, even Elvis. The 2 and half to three minute song. The back beat the timing. The Ramones and the dictators paved the way for the rest of the burgeoning genres stringent formula of old time rock n roll played by guys who were less than professional musicians. The amateur showmanship and instrumentation gave you the fast songs and the shouted lyrics. Much like the Dolls were trying to be amateur Rolling Stones, the Ramones, Dictators, etc, were the simplified, garage versions of Bill Haley and his comets. -d.f.
