What terms of so-called and perhaps well meant endearment from strangers annoy you? If someone you dont know calls you mate do you react well or badly? This is Dan Damon with World Update at 9 GMT. The Tour de France organisers have asked volunteers helping out at the start of the race in Yorkshire not to use terms that are common in parts of Northern England, like darling and love. What are common, informal greetings where you are? Give us a dialect lesson! Are those greetings too casual for your tastes? In some cultures the verbs you use change according to the status of the people you are talking to - du and Sie in German, U and je in Dutch, for example - is that changing in your society as informality becomes more acceptable? And in a shop or buying a train ticket are you more likely to be called Sir if youre a man but something like darling or love if you are a woman?
