What the Corvette truly is. From the day its tires - TopicsExpress

What the Corvette truly is. From the day its tires touched the asphalt the Corvette has been a target of naysayers... critics and todays youth. I have my own auto enthusaist group on Facebook and some of the members of world wide corvettes are members of my group. Last night one of my friends posted a link about the stingray being called back for defective airbags. As a fair and balanced lover of all things on wheels and some without.... I pointed out that his car of choice the Porsche 911 gt3 has been recalled for engine fires. Of course this didnt sit well and a debate arose out of my factual comment. As much as I adore my Corvette I cant deny Gms failure to put enthusiasts at the for front of there engineering and development. Programs. After almost 50 years of making the Corvette... the c5 brought the visions of Zora Arkus Duntov to life. The Corvette became a international race dominating supercar leaving Porsche... Ferrari and Aston Martin wondering what happened. The c6 was cut from the same cloth as the c5 and continued to dominate. So while my friend was rapping off words like sophisticated.... cutting edge and advanced to show superiority of the 911....I brought it down to something everyone always remembers....who won the race.... who came first and of course who is out selling who in the showroom. Im by no means a hardcore Corvette owner in the sense that Im blinded by senseless devotion to the car I love and adore. Most hardcore Corvette owners dont know about the cerv1 and cerv2 concept Corvettes nor do they have any idea the Corvette at one point was going to sport rotary power. Hardcore is a word tossed around by those who have little idea what being a Corvette owner means. So what does it mean? To me being a Corvette owner is being an ambassador to the automotive hobby. Its a representation of ones desire to be successful and make their dreams come true. Its being able to properly bond with a car that Although lacks sophistication in some areas.... has the ability to bring you closer to it.... not by just the driving experience but the experience of fixing your car when it breaks. A Corvette isnt just a car..... its a lifestyle.....a learning experience and a look into the world of other key auto makers that made supercars relevant. When I bought my Corvette I felt like I bought my first Ferrari. Although my Corvette isnt of the prancing horse of modena I could see the Italian soul and feminine qualities of its design When I did the exhaust I was convinced that much more that the Corvette became more supercar than muscle car......a term that is misused by people who know nothing about cars.... example ...the father of the muscle car is the Pontiac gto last time I checked that car was massive and couldnt take a corner if you put it on a rail road tracks. The Corvette is Americas sports car or to me... Americas supercar. The Corvette is the best America has to offer besides building planes that drop payloads that can level whole countries... and like America is full of diversity and the minds and physical actions of people from all around the world.... dont believe me..... find out where your carbon ceramic brakes come from on your c6 zr1 and a familiar Italian auto make will rear its head. Look at your c4 zr1 and watch you mouth drop as lotus developed the cylinder heads... while mercury marine of Utah assembled the lt5 to all its 405hp goodness. So like Zora duntov said long ago....every Corvette is high performance.... it just depends on the degrees..... The Corvette isnt the best car but its the only car I want.... until I can add a Ferrari next to it..... well you know to keep it company.....no Corvette should sleep alone
