What the Democratic Party has done for you. It was Democrat - TopicsExpress

What the Democratic Party has done for you. It was Democrat Andrew Jackson who got rid of laws that discriminated against working-class Americans by allowing only wealthy landholders to vote. It was Democrat Woodrow Wilson who supported and oversaw the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which for the first time allowed American women to vote. It was Democrat Lyndon Johnson who pushed through the Civil Rights Act, which outlawed racial segregation in public schools and public places. He also led the fight for the 24th Amendment to outlaw poll taxes, which were used to keep poor people from voting. It was Democrat Franklin Roosevelt who pushed for the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act, which set the first national minimum wage, created requirements for paid overtime and outlawed child labor. Democratic presidents and Democratic Congresses created Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. These programs, which have benefited millions of Americans, were all opposed by Republicans when they were created, and even today many Republican politicians still want to abolish or substantially reduce them. President Obama’s Affordable Care Act has made it possible for children to stay on their parents’ insurance policies until they’re 26 years old, made it possible for people with “pre-existing conditions” to obtain health insurance, prohibited insurance companies from cancelling policies when people get sick, and made health insurance more affordable for millions of Americans. Most Republicans admit that health reform is working and have finally stopped trying to repeal it. Other Democratic accomplishments include the G.I. Bill, the Lilly Ledbetter equal pay for women law, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and many others. The Democratic Party has a solid record of serving ALL the people. It’s why you should register to vote as a Democrat, and it’s why you should vote Democratic.
