What the Ebola outbreak tells us about the difference between the two political parties. Democratic response: Fund vaccine development, stop the epidemic at its source, fund treatment for people who have caught the disease. Republican response: cut ALL programs including vaccine research, ignore the problem in Africa until it grows out of control, eliminate healthcare programs allowing uncovered poor to become harbors of disease. Sure, in the short term the latter is cheaper, but in the long term it is both more expensive and the consequences will hit us hard in lost lives. Look at the AIDS epidemic: this arose when Reagan was President and his approach was the Republican response. AIDS now cost us over 2 Billion dollars per year in additional healthcare costs as well as the cost in lives. What do you think, will your vote matter?
