“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the wise man - TopicsExpress

“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the wise man calls a butterfly.” At the Butterfly Garden, children learn from a very young age that there is no genuine human or creative problem that cannot be solved if you are humble enough, patient enough, caring enough and hard-working enough, and if you practice and cultivate the gentle arts of contemplation, painting, poetry and laughter together. This is pasted in the Web-site for the Butterfly Peace Garden in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. Its a wonderful place visited by Carolyn Rouse and myself in 2005 as part of a project reviewing post-tsunami help in Sri Lanka. I have always thought of replicating something like this in Fiji ... using art, music, poetry for rehabilitation and recovery. Its a great message as we come to the end of Mental Health Month and another visit by Eduardo Vega from the USA. For your interest the cane sculptures were done by a man with severe schizophrenia - who apparently was completely relaxed when working on his sculptures!! Let me know if you want to help me get this going in Fiji!! butterflypeacegarden.org/pages/the-philosophy/
