What the difference between a common cold and influenza (‘the flu’)? With such a crazy winter rife with respiratory illnesses, I thought I’d put up a post about the common cold and the flu ☺ Influenza is caused by a virus. It is more serious than just a bad cold or cough and can develop into more serious illness such as pneumonia or worse. The symptoms of flu include sore throat, high fevers, headache, fatigue, muscle and joint pain and a cough. We treat ‘the flu’ with rest, making sure we drink plenty of fluids, and often use simple analgesics such as paracetemol and ibuprofen to help with the symptoms of the flu (i.e. trying to reduce the fever or for muscle and joint pain). Generally, there is no other treatment. Of course we can obtain over the counter medicines to help with the symptoms and turn to complimentary therapies to help reduce the symptoms and help us feel better. Salt therapy can be used and may benefit those suffering from common cold or influenza by helping to alleviate the symptoms. Salt therapy has natural anti-inflammatory and anti bacterial properties that help break down the congestion in our respiratory system, reduce the inflammation in our airways to help us breathe easier and help to rid the body of bacteria and the virus. We are seeing and getting great feedback from many of our clients coming and using salt therapy to help reduce the symptoms of these respiratory illnesses. If you think salt therapy might benefit you and would like to chat with one of our friendly staff, please call our rooms on 49295712 or facebook message us and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can ☺ Have a great evening!
