At least right now in the United States it doesn’t seem to have consumer protection the existing legacy payment methods have, so there is a risk to the consumer of losing money. It doesn’t have the Reg-E protections or FDIC insurance that other traditional deposits have. But I think some of that stuff will hopefully come in time.
