Cattle and carabaos, among others, are readily sold when cash is needed by the farming family raising them. When farmers breed their animals through Artificial Insemination (AI), the offsprings are naturally big and bring in more income. Here are what some Central Visayas farmers say about the AI technology: Roberto Vendiola (dairy farmer from San Miguel, Bacong, Negros Oriental): “The AI technology has made it possible for us (with wife Teresita) to acquire bigger animals that give more milk than the native breeds. AI has made my retirement years productive and financially independent. Here in our place, farmers adopting AI earn reasonably good income from their animals.” Gina Lañojan (Bahay, Sibonga, Cebu). “I raise animals produced from AI because I want to help my husband Rowen, an AI technician, promote the AI technology to our neighbors. More and more farmers seek the assistance of my husband when they saw that AI offsprings are bigger and will surely bring more profit. We were also able to improve our house from the sale of animals produced from AI.” Au Perocillo (Bahay, Sibonga, Cebu). “From the sale of animals produced from AI, I was able to send my children to school and to pay hospital bills when one of them got sick.”
