What this lousy picture is showing you is what I found at Mardens - TopicsExpress

What this lousy picture is showing you is what I found at Mardens in Brewer. If you do scrolls and know your paper, then this may interest you. On my rocking chair are two packs of Arches paper. Each pack contains three pieces of 300 lbs. Arches cold-press, 30 x 22 inches, deckle edge. The cost for the three pack was $24 - or $8/sheet. These sheets at Hobby Lobby are $15/sheet. The cheapest you can find these online are at Dick Blick, at $40 for a three pack or $10.40/sheet if you buy 5 - and that does not include shipping. I did not count how many there were at Mardens because after I got up to 10 packs, I stopped counting. My only caveat here is that some people who are not experienced at doing scrolls may not be ready for calligraphy on cold-press, which is just a bit bumpier and has a lot more tooth than your standard Strathmore 3-ply bristol w/ vellum finish when using a metal nib - policing for fiber-pickup is a must. My experience with doing scrolls on cold-press arches is that using a real quill and larger-rather-than-smaller letter sizes will give you the best texts. Of course, gouache will lie down on Arches cold-press like a lover on a cold night on flannel sheets and hudson-bay blankets - but beware of too much water though thats a much smaller worry when using 300 lbs weight than when using the more common 140 lbs Arches (even so remember to use drafting tape and firmly attach the paper to your drafting board or painting surface before painting).
