What to Pack The Labor Bag Your ID and insurance card Cell phone and charger Camera and charger/batteries Cash/change for the vending machines (so your support people don’t get weak) Snacks (see above) A bottle of over the counter pain medicine (just in case a support person gets a headache) Your favorite pillow with a colored case (the hospital uses white and you would not want housekeeping to get confused) Baby book Contact solution, case, your glasses Chapstick and lotion Lollipops (You usually can’t eat in labor but you may have clear liquids including hard candy if you don’t have an epidural) Toothbrush and toothpaste (You may throw up in labor. Won’t you be glad you pack these?) Warm but old socks (you may want to be able to just throwthem away after delivery) Hair brush and elastics or a headband Music (optional of course) Deck of cards or book (hard to believe but, if you do opt for an epidural, you could get board) Leave everything else in the trunk. You won’t need any baby stuff or overnight stuff in labor. Postpartum Bag Bathstuff (the hospital WILL NOT have anything you want to use) Ear plugs/Sleep mask (hospitals are not great places to rest. Nurses have to do checks on you and on the baby at all hours.) Nightgown, robe, and slippers (you can wear the hospital gown but you will look much cuter for all those pictures in your own) Baby blanket and hat (see above) Nursing bra or sports bra Outfit to go home (for you and the baby) A big bag to take any gifts home Thank you cards Guestbook? The most important thing you can bring is a carseat! Your baby will not be discharged without one!
