SUNDAY, MARCH 2 8:30 The 86th Annual Academy Awards (ABC) | Ellen DeGeneres lords over Hollywood’s starriest night, which among other things will pay tribute the 75th anniversary of The Wizard or Oz, with help from Liza Minnelli, Lorna Luft and Joey Luft. Red carpet pre-shows air at 5:30 pm (on E!, if you have brain cells to spare) at 7pm (on ABC). Oscars: What do you think will win for Best Picture? 9 pm True Detective (HBO) | In this season’s penultimate episode, Hart and Cohle forge a truce to probe a murky string of disappearances that tie to the symbology of the Dora Lange murder and the Tuttle family. 9 pm The Walking Dead (AMC) | A simple request by someone in the group leads to a bizarre but enlightening mission. 9 pm The Mentalist (CBS) | Repeat to Revisit: Patrick Jane finally comes face-to-face with Red John. 10 pm Girls (HBO) | While visiting her ailing grandmother in the hospital, Hannah is surprised by a strange request (to wear clothes a bit more often?) from her mother. 10:30 pm Looking (HBO) | Stressed that his parents will judge his choice of a partner in Richie, Patrick reaches new levels of anxiety before his sister’s wedding — and runs into an unexpected guest when he arrive; Dom rebuffs Lynn’s advice.
