What to Watch: Week 6 Wow! Great match-ups on tap this week, kids! We have something to watch on both Thursday and Friday this week, all leading up to National College Football Day on Saturday! Let’s get started… Thursday, October 2 7:00 PM - UCF @ Houston (ESPN) *UCF is 1-2, but two of those losses have come against Penn State and SEC powerhouse Mizzou. Houston is 2-2, though one of their losses came against then-no. 25 BYU. Both schools need a statement win to establish themselves in the wide-open AAC. 10:30 PM - Arizona @ 2 Oregon (ESPN) *At 4-0 Arizona is rolling, having already picked up their first conference win. However that win, a 49-45 suckfest against Pac-12 North weakling Cal hasn’t convinced anyone. This week the ‘Cats face their first real test: Oregon is also 4-0, 1-0 in conference. Luckily for Arizona, Oregon hasn’t looked quite as invincible as usual this year (not that that’s saying much): the Ducks have struggled through the first half of most of their games, and barely squeaked away against Wazzu last week. Friday, October 3 10:15 PM - Utah State @ Brigham Young (ESPN) *Never count out a rivalry game. The “Battle for the Old Wagon Wheel” has been one of the toughest rivalry games in Utah for years, and this year promises to be no different. Ranked 18, BYU looks to be one of college football’s top teams, with impressive wins over Virginia and Texas behind them. The Aggies, for their part, are 2-2 with losses to Tennessee and Arkansas State. SATURDAY, October 4 12:00 PM 6 Texas A&M @ 12 Mississippi State (ESPN) *At 5-0, 2-0 in conference play, Texas A&M is starting to look invincible. The Aggies are coming off their toughest test thus far: an OT thriller against a powerful Arkansas squad. This week they’re on the road against Miss State: the team that downed LSU. 20 Ohio State @ Maryland (ABC) *Though OSU is 3-1, don’t let the record fool you: this is not last year’s team. The Buckeyes have looked off-balance thus far this season, and now face their first conference game. Maryland, on the other hand, has looked strong this season: the Terps are 4-1, with a convincing victory over Indiana and their only loss coming against WVU. 3:30 PM 3 Alabama @ 11 Ole Miss (CBS) *Though ‘Bama is 4-0, the Tide haven’t looked as invulnerable as usual thus far. Fresh off their first conference win (over Florida), they travel to Oxford to face Ole Miss. The Rebels are also 4-0, also 1-0 in conference, but have yet to face any serious opponents. That will change on Saturday. 4 Oklahoma @ 25 TCU (FOX) *At 4-0, Oklahoma is rolling, with a string of overload victories behind them. At 3-0, TCU is also undefeated, though their toughest test thus far came in a 30-7 win over Minnesota. 7 Baylor @ Texas (ABC) *NEVER count out a rivalry game. Baylor is ranked 7 and undefeated, yet they’ve done little to earn their ranking, given who they’ve faced thus far. Though 2-2, UT has had a much tougher road thus far, having lost a close game against UCLA. 14 Stanford @ 9 Notre Dame (NBC) *Stanford is 3-1, but off to a rocky start, having lost to USC and won a heartstopper last week against Washington. Notre Dame is 4-0, but has yet to face any serious competition, with their toughest test so far coming against a reeling Michigan squad. NC State @ Clemson (ESPNU) *NC State is off to an impressive start: 4-1, their only loss coming in a close game against no. 1 Florida last week. Clemson, on the other hand, has had an unexpected rough start to the season, having dropped their season opener to Georgia and lost a heartbreaker to FSU. With their loss to FSU, Clemson cannot afford another loss if they hope to remain in conference contention. 7:00 PM 15 LSU @ 5 Auburn (ESPN) *Though ranked 15, LSU has had a rough season thus far, squeaking away against Wisconsin in week 1 and losing to Miss State. They face their biggest test thus far this weekend: Auburn is ranked fifth and undefeated, having polished off Arkansas and K-State in convincing fashion. Texas Tech @ 23 Kansas State (ESPNU) *Texas Tech is 2-2, having lost two straight. However, these losses were against Arkansas and Oklahoma State, with the second being fairly close. K-State is 3-1, their only loss coming in a close game against Auburn, however they had a close call against Iowa State in week 2. 7:30 PM Arizona State @ 16 USC (FOX) *ASU is 3-1, 1-1 in conference play and still reeling from a blowout loss at home to UCLA. USC is 3-1, 2-0 in conference with their only loss coming from Boston College. Both teams need a win to establish themselves in the crowded Pac-12 South. Miami @ Georgia Tech (ESPN2) *Miami is 3-2, 1-1 in conference with tough losses against Louisville and Nebraska behind them. Georgia Tech is 4-0, but their only real test thus far came in a very close win over Virginia Tech last week. 8:00 PM 19 Nebraska @ 10 Michigan State (ABC) *At 5-0, Nebraska looks like the team to beat in the Big Ten, with overload wins over Miami and Illinois behind them. MSU is 3-1, having lost their only real test this far against Oregon. 10:30 PM Utah @ 8 UCLA (ESPN) *After a strong start, Utah is reeling from their stunning, one-point loss to Wazzu last week. They have a tough match up against a dominant UCLA squad, fresh off a blowout victory over ASU. Boise State @ Nevada (CBSS) *Boise State is 3-2 in their first season since the departure of HC Christ Petersen, coming off a surprising loss to Air Force. Nevada is 3-1, their only loss coming against Arizona.
